What is reflexology?

Reflexology is defined as an alternative medicine involving the application of pressure to the feet and/or hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques.

It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands.

How does reflexology work? How exactly does reflexology work?

Reflexology works through the body’s nervous system.

When there is a problem or imbalance in a certain area in the body, the nerves in that area release calcium and uric acid, that then gets drawn down the nervous system by gravity and collects in the hands and feet.

This is why certain areas of the hands and feet mirror specific areas in the body.

When a reflexologist breaks up these crystals, three things happen:

  1. The crystals are carried away by the lymphatic system;
  2. a message is sent up the nervous system to the brain, alerting it that there is a problem in this area;
  3. the brain then begins to address the problem by increasing circulation, releasing the necessary hormones and combating inflammation.

Reflexology can be used on its own and also as a complimentary therapy to current treatments of health conditions.

The body is an amazing system with the profound ability to heal itself when given the chance to do so.
